Accepting Bitcoin as payment for your goods or services on your website couldn’t be easier.
There’s increasing interest in Bitcoin as an alternative to traditional currencies. Bitcoin is the most prominent of the digital or crypto-currencies that have sprung up in the last 5 or 6 years. And although it has had its problems, it now seems like things are settling down and that Bitcoin is becoming a viable means of exchange for every day transactions. If you need to bring yourself up to speed with Bitcoin and crypto currency, I published a long article and eBook on the subject here.
In the article I mentioned that there are 3 main ways to start experimenting with Bitcoin and by far the easiest of these is simply accepting Bitcoin as payment for your goods or services on your website. This is as simple as adding Bitcoin as a payment method, much as you would with credit cards, PayPal etc.
How to start Accepting Bitcoin as payment
To start accepting Bitcoin you will need a digital wallet to receive your payments into. Setting up a wallet is covered in the previously mentioned article too.
One of the simplest ways to get up and running accepting Bitcoin on your site is to use a payment handler such as Bitpay. To do this you’ll need to set up a Bitpay account, but this is easy and automatically sets you up with a wallet to receive payments to. Bitpay even offers a Visa credit card that allows you to spend your bitcoins in more conventional situations every day! Set up your Bitpay account here.
Website Payment Processing
The final part of the process is to add your Bitpay account to your website cart or store module. This couldn’t be easier, with many of the most popular payment systems offering a Bitpay extension for their WordPress plugins. WooCommerce and WP eStore are among the developers who offer simple integration of your Bitpay account.
